The Penrose Record Room is an independent vinyl record shop in Downtown Riverside, California. It was opened in October of 2023 by Matt Beld (guitarist, Vicky Tafoya & The Big Beat) and Gabe Roth (AKA Bosco Mann) as a physical extension of our local souldies imprint Penrose Records (a division of Daptone Records.) Located in the historic Life Arts Building, our shop features a curated selection of new and used vinyl, label merchandise, and limited items––most notably red vinyl pressings of Penrose and Daptone titles exclusive to the store. Stock is replenished daily and Matt and the staff are happy to help you find what you're looking for.

With our label's recording studios located directly upstairs, the Record Room has become a headquarters for Penrose and Daptone artists who regularly drop down from recording sessions to hang out with Matt and dig through the bins.

The shop is often packed for intimate in-store performances and signings. Our tiny corner stage has featured artists such as Vicky Tafoya, Thee Sacred Souls, The Altons, The Womack Sisters, The Escapers, Los Yesterdays, Rogê, The Emkays, Stacy Cooper, and Trish Toledo, as well as DJ's like Ruben Molina, Ryan Guzman, Mike Noriega, Mr. Blue, Musica y Mujeres, and Alex Garcia.

 We built the shop with love and spared no effort in trying to create a timeless and welcoming vibe for our customers. The room has a cozy, vintage decor, a killer sound system, a wood paneled lounge, two listening stations, and hand-painted signs with messages like "We encourage you to listen!" Fans love to snap pics on the stage in front of the red velvet curtains and neon "Penrose" light or in front of the iconic spinning 45s on our motorized sign out front.

While the Record Room has become an international destination, our greatest source of pride is being a haven for the local music-loving community here in Riverside.

In October of 2025, we celebrated our second anniversary with the launch of our on-line shop, run by our good friend Steven "Boogie" Boyd (Parkside Records, The Get Back.)
